The Keep in 50 Objects

Book design, typesetting

A new book for The Keep Military Museum in Dorset, The Keep in 50 Objects is the story of the museum’s fascinating collection as told by staff, volunteers and curators. Having worked with The Keep on their previous seven publications, this book required a fresh look and feel, being different in its content and format to the former.

Design

The book needed to be ‘classy’ and ‘beautifully produced’. We created a spacious and carefully considered layout for each spread, giving each object and accompanying research room to be enjoyed and explored. We gave prominence to the photography of the items, allowing them to each have a full page to be presented on, with the text following the lead on the neighbouring page.

Printing

Publishing in April 2020 brought unforeseen challenges, with many printers closed or at reduced capacity. Thankfully, we were able to quickly find a new supplier and achieve our original intended publication date.

“I’m absolutely thrilled with the look of the thing. You seem to have grasped exactly what was wanted and to have produced something that is attractive, accessible and fresh-looking. The font and design are spot on. I love it. It’s classy.”
